Know Mo' Grow!

Since 2003 increasing numbers of men have participated in annual November “grow campaigns” such as Movember (grow a moustache), No Shave November (don't shave at all), or Grow and Give (grow whatever you want).  They are fun and easy ways to be part of doing good on a local, state, national, and even international level.  The purpose of these campaigns is to raise awareness of men’s health issues.  However, many participants have no idea why they are growing their facial hair, and are thereby unable to share the purpose of the campaigns.[1]  We hope to help resolve this!

Below are some easy to use social media posts that allow participants to share relevant and evidence-based health information with friends, family, co-workers, and others.  Simply copy and paste each week's message below and share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, or any other preferred social media platform that you use.

Know Mo’ Grow!  According the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer are the leading causes of death for men.  Knowing your risk can be as simple as getting a baseline men’s health screening in your 40s. In addition to physical exams, important blood tests include a lipid profile, A1C, and a PSA blood test.  Having these tests early can help with better understanding your personal health and working with your healthcare provider to plan your future healthcare needs. Know Mo’ Grow!  Movember/No Shave November is almost over, and we’ve learned a lot!  One important thing to consider is the diseases that are most likely to harm younger men.  Many of these are collectively known as diseases of despair (suicide and drug and alcohol related deaths) and they are literally changing the landscape of mortality in the United States (US).  Please be aware, and look out for your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and others. We are living in hard times, so it is no surprise that these diseases are on the rise. Until next November, wishing you health and happiness!
